Carlie sat at her desk, working, rather slowly, on a file for the last weevil case they had had. It had been like a month ago, but Carlie had been putting off the file for a while. She had been studying the weevils since she had joined Torchwood 3. She could tell anyone most of the information about them, their biology, their habits, but not where they had came from. No one knew where they had came from. It was a mystery, which Carlie longed to crack. She yawned, stretching her arms, clicking her fingers, which were saw with typing. She looked around the hub, not seeing anyone. She sighed, relaxing down more into her seat, putting her feet up on the desk. She looked quickly at her watch; it read 1:45am. She should have gone home like five hours ago. Jack had disappeared into his office, and Kas had to leave to get to his hotel before curfew.
Carlie always gave up her own time for work, that was part of Torchwood. But she had no life outside Torchwood, like most of the other members. She had no one waiting at home for her, no boyfriend, no pets, though she had thought of getting a pet, but had no plans to change her martial status. Her parents called her once a night and a morning, so it wasn't that important. Her only real friend was Kas, and they had met though Torchwood. She got on okay with Jack, but didn't talk to him much outside of work. She couldn't help her eyes closing every now and then, but she would shake her head trying to make them stay open, willing her self to stay awake and work on the file. But she was fighting a losing battle. She had tried many ways to stay awake, only the ones that seemed resonably. She had tried to drink as many cups of coffee as she could, but the coffee machine wouldn't work to well for her and it made her go toilet every half an hour. There was another option, which was dunking her head into a bucket of icey water, but it seemed to odd. She finally gave up the battle with her eyes, falling slowly asleep, though she could still hear what was happening around her, the whirr of her and Kas's computers. Though she couldn't hear any footsteps. But she soon fell into a deep, dreamless sleep.
